I am a CFA (Chartered Financial Analyst) Charter Holder and have over two decades of work experience in the Tech Industry.  As a result, I am well-versed in the tax issues surrounding investing, stock options, ESPPs, RSUs, and other complex tax situations.  Please visit the CFA Institute website for more info on the CFA Charter.  The majority of the individual tax returns I prepare are considered “complex”, involving self-employment, businesses (Schedule C), rental properties (Schedule E), complicated items such as 1031 Exchanges, and other issues related to individuals with high incomes.

Tax & Financial Planning

The preparation of tax returns is just the starting point, and many tax preparers stop there.  As a result, the majority of taxpayers are constantly in a reactive mode, only determining their taxes due or refunds to be received after the fact.  Too often this leaves the taxpayer with complex tax situations to work out with the IRS, the California Franchise Tax Board, and other tax authorities, not to mention large tax bills, interest, and penalties.

To avoid this fate, I work with clients to stay on top of their tax situation by examining proactive strategies.  From the simplest steps, such as determining adequate income tax withholding and estimated payments, to more complex subjects such as income recognition, individual and business deduction planning, opportunities to take tax credits, tax minimization through efforts such as pre-tax deductions, HSAs, retirement contributions, and other strategies.  Further, I work with clients to conduct financial planning and to take taxes into consideration as part of the big picture.
